Mobile phones, SIM cards, cash recovered from Haryana jails

During raids conducted by Haryana Police along with civil administration in various prisons of the state, mobile phones, SIM cards, chargers, cash, opium and other objectionable articles recovered on Saturday.



The searches lead to a recovery of seven mobile phones, six SIM cards, three chargers, one pen drive, Rs 46350 cash, 03 gram opium, two small scissors, three injection syringe, two data cable, one mobile battery, sharp-edged material made from utensils and iron nails from different jails in the state.



While giving this information here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk said that the searches that were conducted simultaneously were part of a statewide routine drive to check for unlawful activities, devices and substances in jails and ensure that jails in State do not become a place for criminal activities.

He said that teams of about 150-200 policemen in each district started the raid at 9 am which lasted till about 12 noon. The team searched every nook and corner in the jail premises including barracks, kitchens, toilets and other places. All those found in possession of unlawful items are being booked under the law. After the completion of the search operation he also expressed satisfaction about the strict control maintained by Jail authorities over illegal items entering the jails and the inmates.

While revealing further about the recovered items, Virk said that three mobile phone were found in Kurukshetra jail, two in Faridabad, one each in Gurugram and Jhajjar.

Police teams during search have found Rs 35510 in Faridabad and Rs 10840 in Kurukshetra jail. Maximum sharp-edged materials have been recovered from Karnal jail whereas 3 gram opium seized from Jind, he added.
